On the 6th Nov 2011, during a worship time, I was lost in the presence of God on the dance floor within a swirling curtain of colour and I was instructed to spend the next 4 months in the garden, dance floor, soaking room and bridal chamber. I was to take my Ketubah marriage contract with me into the canopy of darkness, into the presence of the person of God, for consummation. During another encounter, the Father revealed that February 20th 2012 would be my breakthrough day.⠀ ⠀ The garden for love, the dance floor for joy, the soaking room for peace, and the bridal chamber for hope – four months of those things did not sound too bad. Remembering what had happened during my time of fasting, I was excited to begin my four months of deeper intimacy. Prompted by my spirit, I asked, “Father how do I meet You in the fire and the smoke?”⠀ The Father responded “Son, you have met Me but you have not been hungry and thirsty enough to come where I am in the thick cloud. You have held back, you have been fearful. You have not been ready to surrender everything. If you really want to come you can but you will never be then the same. You can’t act the same. You must want to come above all else, you must need to come.⠀ ⠀ “You have too many encumbrances to come; they anchor you to the world. You must be willing to have them dissolved away. A Ketubah is a marriage contract made under a Huppah (a covering cloud) and it is vital for our relationship that we know what God’s expectations are. It is equally vital to know what our expectations of God are. Normally it would be drawn up between the two parties: on one hand the bride and her father; and on the other the groom and his father. They would make an agreement, a list of terms which defined the basic boundaries of the marriage. The bride and groom could put anything they wanted in the Ketubah, as long as they both agreed. Once it was agreed on, that document became the rules of the marriage. If anyone broke the terms, it was called ‘marital unfaithfulness'. They would sign it, then stand and face each other. ⠀ ⠀ The groom would say to the bride: "I go to prepare a place for you; that where I am, there you may be also". The bride would say: "When will you come back, to receive me unto yourself?” and the groom would answer, “I do not know the day or the hour, but when my father approves the wedding chamber, he will send me back to receive you unto myself.”⠀ ⠀ We recognise those familiar words from John 14, and we see that Jesus was putting His death on the cross into the context of marriage. Jesus went to the cross to prepare us to be a place of His dwelling, to prepare a place for us, a marriage chamber in us. “…the period of restoration of all things about which God spoke by the mouth of His holy prophets from ancient time” (Acts 3:21).⠀ ⠀ In his sermon on the day of Pentecost, Peter tells his audience that God has already spoken about the restoration of all things in the past. So who were those prophets He spoke through, what did He say and when did He say it? And if these things were spoken, were they also written down, and if so, where?⠀ ⠀ In the 39 books which we call the Old Testament? Or the 24 books of the Hebrew Tanakh? Or the Talmud or Rabbinical writings?⠀ Is it only the Bible that records what God spoke by His holy prophets? Are there other written records of what the prophets said?⠀ What about the Apocryphal books which were once included in our Bible?
