Epigenetics, Behaviour, and the New Creation: What Gets Passed On?

At the end of the day, if the Father shows you something, then yes, you can deal with it. It is not automatic. But the question would be why did he do it, what was going on in his mind, and from that perspective, can it have an effect?

Epigenetic factors are factors of behaviour that are passed on to the next generation, but they cannot be passed on purely spiritually. What a father did after a child’s birth could not be passed on to that child attached to their genetic material. Genetics is an attachment of sulphonated groups to the genetic material. It is not our gene sequencing, which makes up what we look like and all of that, but it is an effect upon it. So if your father was an alcoholic, that could be passed on epigenetically, not genetically, but epigenetically, because it is a behavioural system. A lot of people can have behavioural factors passed on to them through genetic material, but not through the genes themselves. And that can happen within one generation. Something happens to a parent that can be passed on to the child because it affects their epigenetic factors, and that can then be passed on.

There has been a lot of psychological research into epigenetics to identify certain traits that are passed on, and they usually start off in mice or similar, where certain behavioural programming is applied to the parent, and then the offspring carry that programming. It did not change their genetic material, but something was attached to their genetic material that then influenced the offspring in some way. Epigenetic transformation or mutation normally takes a long time, whereas this can be instant. It can affect the genetic material epigenetically in an instant and then be passed on to the next generation, but not once that generation has already been born, because it cannot be attached to them at that point. They would have to create it themselves.

Now, behavioural example through nurture can cause a person to respond out of seeing their parents and behaving like them, and that can then also become attached to them as an epigenetic factor in them, which could be passed on to the next generation. But they created that by following the example of a parent. And sometimes you can get what is called bitter root judgment: if you judge a parent over something and do not forgive them, that can cause the very thing you judged to come upon you. Certain people have judged their parents for alcoholism and then found themselves drawn to alcohol in their own lives, not because of epigenetics but because of the judgment. So these issues of nature and nurture are complex, and they do affect people.

You can take identical twins and separate them at birth, and there will be some things that are epigenetic and will be exactly the same in both. But if one is brought up in a very rich home and one is brought up in poverty, that will have an effect on the way they think and what their belief systems are. A lot of issues are nurture as opposed to nature, and some are nature as well.

But these are influences that God can undo. That is where taking communion and dealing with the effect that there may be in our genetic and epigenetic material comes in, and actually seeing that we are new creations in Christ. That needs to renew our minds and bring us into alignment with who we really are, and not have us believe the lies of what we thought we were or who we thought we were.

547. How Do I Surrender to God?

Surrender, Rest, and Freedom of Relationship with God

How do I surrender?

Well, you can set the desire of your heart and say, God, I just want to surrender. Show me how. Show me what it is I need to surrender from. It is relational, ask him. Engage him in that way. He may need to unveil things that you cannot see, and that is fine.

As a living sacrifice, I gave him permission to do whatever he needed in me, in my mind, in my inward parts, in my heart, in my everyday life. He had permission, and he used that permission to do what he needed to do in me and what I needed. It will be different for everybody.

515. From Self to Sonship | Understanding Living Sacrifice

So I think we can relax and trust him and know his unconditional love, that frees us from the need to perform, to meet a standard, to know his will and therefore try and fulfil it. It is so much more relational and relaxed than that. He is not judging you or measuring you to a particular standard of his will.

My religious upbringing told me that the will of God is one hundred percent, that we may attain to it to some degree but will always fail, and that he will judge us on it and we will one day have to face that judgment in a negative way. That is not what it is like at all. There is no measurement. There is just relationship. And he wants us to fully embrace who we are in our relationship with him and enjoy it. Joy and peace and love are really what it is all about. And that to me is rest. I am at rest. I am not striving. I am not trying to find what God’s will is because I feel I need to do it to please him or to be obedient to him.

Who we really are

All those mindsets are the things he had to deal with in me, because I wanted to obey him, because I thought that was what would please him, and therefore I would maintain the standard that was acceptable to him – while never feeling that I could ever make it, because it was impossible to be like God. Whereas we are already created in the image and likeness of God. We are already like him. He just wants us to relax and be an expression of him through who we are as individuals, who he has made us to be.

So we cannot fail.

He has not set us up to fail. He has set it up so we cannot fail. How can you fail to be you? The only way is if you do not know who you are. And that is what he wants to reveal to us: who we really are. If we do not know who we are, we are still living in lost identity. Jesus has already covered all of that. So it is a win all the way along with God.

379. Created in His Image | The Purpose of Our Existence

There is no losing with God. And we tend to think that there is, and that is what causes us to stress: I need to know his will, I need to try and do it, I am not good enough, I keep failing. And he is just saying, come and walk with me, come and enjoy fellowship with me today, let us enjoy today together. And if you are walking with me, there will be opportunities to express and outwork my heart as we together are looking to engage in a relational way with each other and with creation, and to help people also know the wonderful love of God, because he is so wonderful.

Find the joy

I understand that it is a process, and that our soul does need to find healing and wholeness through that relationship with him. But we do trust him, and we do not need to try and defend ourselves, protect ourselves, or cope with life on our own. We can truly find the joy that he wants us to experience and live in that joyful life.

It is so hard to be joyful when you have got to fulfil a whole lot of duties and obligations. Most of the time he is not really that concerned about where we are working or what we are doing. It is more a question of whether we can be ourselves in that dynamic. People have got this idea that they need to be in the right city doing the right thing, need to have the right job, need to do this and that, as if he cannot work within our choices. Most of the time he is not really that concerned about that level of detail. Some people are so bound up with detail that they are asking him what colour socks they should wear every day, as if he is bothered. He is not interested in that. He just wants whatever socks we are wearing to be comfortable, because he wants us to feel at rest. That is how it is with him.

473. Why Do We Assume? | Questioning Our Beliefs and Practices

Religion has a very different way of painting that picture, causing us to stress over getting it right, feeling like a failure all the time, and therefore having to perform some form of penance or religious duty to make amends. There is no penance with God.

Time, Eternity, and the Mercy of God: Going Back into the Past

Mike Parsons

I have been back in time lots of times, being used back in time. You do not go back there and change what has already happened. You can go there and be used to establish what has already happened. But you only know that you have gone into that from now. If you think of the eternal now state, it is now. Whether it is 1850 BC or whatever, it is all now in that place. So you go into it in 2025, you can come out into the past and be used in the past because it is still now. I did not change the past. God, just as he could go and visit people who are praying, or send an angel, could send us. If you are available and you access that realm, you can go back and be used in the past. But you have always been used in the past. You are only now aware of it because you have entered into it now. But that continuum is still now for them.

193. Rendering Service (Angels – Part 2)

So you go back into, I do not know, 1820 something and do something, 1750 something and do something. I have gone back and rescued people, been a light to stop ships going onto rocks. Lots of it involves children, because when children cry out, God responds. Lots of rescuing children from different things. And I have done this with a lot of other people as well. Other people are doing it also; it is not just me, because we all have access to it. Once I started teaching that and doing activations, there were amazing testimonies of what people were doing when they made themselves available for God to use. I went back to some place in Africa somewhere in the past and showed them how to use irrigation for their plants. It was unusual, but that was it.

I do not believe the future exists yet. I think what people are probably seeing when they seem to access the future is what God desires for the future, and then they can cooperate with him for that future. If the future already exists, then we must be puppets, and whatever we do is going to happen anyway. I do not believe that is what God does. I believe multiple timelines exist at any one moment, and what forms that reality is what we choose at that moment. We can choose different realities at any moment in life. God will still bring good out of the choices we make and will still get us back on track ultimately. Even if we take a few detours, he still wants us to come back to fulfilling our destiny. I do not believe we have ever made a choice that completely stops us fulfilling our destiny. We just make some side tracks sometimes.

529. Transform Your Reality | Let Go Of The Past

God is still able to enable us to be ourselves in whatever setting we are put in, which is really what ‘my destiny’ is. My destiny is the ability for me to be me, and I can do that in multiple different ways. So our choices do not limit what God can still do in our lives and through our lives. This reality is formed because we have all made the choices we have made, but if we had made different choices, we would still be us. Time is a very complicated thing, and I do not know everything about it. But I do believe that God will bring good out of everything we do, even when we make some wrong choices. When I have gone to the judgment seat with my scroll, the wood, hay, and straw were transformed by fire into gold, silver, and precious stones. They were not just got rid of. God transformed them in some way. Here is my scroll, here is all the things I did in my own strength, and God in his mercy and grace purifies it all. Even those things I did in my own strength created opportunities for something good to come out of, because God is so merciful all the time, so gracious, and desires continually to work in our lives for our good.

323. The Judgment Seat of Christ

What I know now, I did not know then. And I cannot beat myself up about it. In my brokenness I did my best. It was not perfect by any means, and of course if I had the time over I would do things differently. But I still believe God could bring good out of even what I did do. I did my best with the knowledge I had and within the state I was in. I was in a broken state emotionally and in other ways, and that is not an excuse for bad parenting or whatever else, but you can only do things within the context of who you are and what you know in an unhealed state. And I was not healed and made whole. So I did what I could do, the best way I could do it, and that was imperfect.

There were things I would now do very differently: investing much more time in loving them unconditionally and helping them know who they were, rather than putting too much time into the church. There was a sense in which that was my job, a calling, but I felt I needed to earn it, needed to do my best because I was employed to do it, and it was out of balance because I was still performance-driven in that setting. I would redress that balance definitely. But I believe God can still redeem all of that and still bring blessing in that way. There is a sense in which I cannot change it, and some of the damage that was done I would want to see repaired and fully restored, but that is not entirely within my own purview to accomplish without other people’s cooperation in it.

Connecting Online

What I have discovered is that generally God is at work with people more than we think. But a lot of them are quiet and silent because they do not want to get trolled online or abused by those who are still operating in the church system and other systems. I had to deal with quite a lot of that initially when we first started posting things that challenged views of God and the evangelical perspective. There were a number of people who really tried to change my thinking or challenge my perspectives, and who made accusations to me, which quite often I would totally accept. Yes, I am moving away from your orthodoxy, and going back to the original orthodoxy that Jesus promoted. So what I did not do was take offence or try to argue with them. Initially there were a few discussions, and I realised it does not get anywhere because they are simply not on the same page.

242. Enjoy The Ride!

So a lot of people are out there but they are keeping their heads down, particularly in the US, because there is such a strong religious spirit operating that attacks and tries to undermine people who hold any opposing views, whether eschatological or spiritual: inclusionism, grace, all of these things. There was so much talk of greasy grace and all that sort of thing when people first started talking about the limitless grace of God, and they were disparaged and accused and all sorts of nasty things were put out there. So a lot of people keep quiet and just get on with it, because they do not want that type of exposure.

It is hard. God prepared me to be able to handle criticism and negativity without taking offence, and to be able to manage it in hopefully the right way. There were a number of people I had to block because they were not being respectful and were not respecting the boundaries we had set on our material. In the end I would just say, look, I am going to have to block you because you are not following the guidelines we have put out. But there have only been a few, not that many. I am sure there are lots of people out there who would oppose some of the beliefs I have or some of the things we have posted, but generally I do not see the negativity, and I do not want those people to see our material either, because I do not want to offend people if they are not ready to pursue something more open.

476. Love As A Movement: Challenging the Status Quo

So I would encourage you to stay positive. Send out the blue lights, but also look at what practical things you can do to see where those connections could be made, and just see how God might bring about those connections. There are a lot more ways of doing it than when I started. Years ago it was like, I do not know anybody, I would not have known how to connect to anyone. But God wanted to connect people to me, and they did. People found ways of connecting. One of the first people who contacted me, when we first started putting out the blog posts, said, hey, I have got questions I would like to ask, and I think there are a few other people who might like to as well. Can I create a forum for you? I did not even know what a forum was. But I said, well, yes. He said, I will give you the admin, you can look after it once I have created it. He started the forum and asked what I would like it to be called. I said, Preparing for destiny, let us call it that. And within a short period of time, there were not many people, but there were ten, twelve, fifteen people who regularly posted things on the forum asking questions, opening the door for me to give answers and connect.

411. Go Beyond Your Comfort Zone!

And then when God said, I want you to connect with people online in a more direct way rather than just answering questions, I used that as the base for starting, because I just posted to them: hey, I am looking to do an online mentoring session, just an online get-together. Who would be interested in that? And I think four people said yes. That is where I started. And then once we started posting YouTube videos, more and more people began to ask how they could connect, how they could get mentoring, how they could join these forums. And then it spiralled from there. God said, I want you to do it. I had no idea how to do it. So I said, well, I am willing. Let us see how it can happen. And God engineered it over a period of time. People would contact me saying, you came up on my YouTube feed as a suggestion, I looked at it, it is amazing. And then those connections get made. So if you have an online presence, it is obviously easier to make those connections, but we can use all the forums available that other people have got, to make connections with like-minded people who are looking in the same areas.

America is a big country and very spread out. If you think, optimistically, that there might be a hundred thousand people in the US who are operating or looking in this area, a hundred thousand spread over the size of the US would just be dotted around, and they would probably be more concentrated in areas of larger population. There are probably more in California and similar places than in a rural area, a big state, or a state that is mainly farmland. So it is not easy to make these connections, but it is far from impossible.

544. The Cloud of Witnesses: Alive, Active, and Cheering Us On!

The cloud of witnesses: what do they do, what role do they have?

Part of the problem is that religious people will say, well, you cannot talk to dead people. But they are not dead to start with. They are alive in the spirit and they are in that realm. They are the church of the firstborn enrolled in heaven, as it says in Hebrews, and we can engage them. And when people say, well, that is necromancy, you are trying to speak to the dead, the answer is no: I am speaking to those who are alive, and Jesus did the same. On the Mount of Transfiguration, Jesus spoke to Elijah, who never died physically, and he spoke to Moses. So Jesus validated the reality that we can engage the cloud of witnesses.

494. What Enoch Teaches Us about Readiness and Change

What role do they have? They are surrounding us. They are not visible most of the time, so they must be in the spiritual realm around us, observing, cheering us on, perhaps encouraging us to finish the race that they started. Hebrews 11 talks a lot about those who died in faith not having received the fullness of the promise, and they are part of those who are cheering us on. The illustration of a relay race works well: you pass the baton to the next generation, and then they pass it to the next runner. They have literally passed us their baton to finish the race. But they are not just sitting on a cloud somewhere playing a harp. They are active. They are the church enrolled in heaven, functioning as witnesses in that realm, and God has many things that they do.

When I first went into heaven in 2010 and 2011, I met a number of the cloud of witnesses. They came to me with a message. Jesus obviously sent them. Jacob was one of the first ones I met. He came to me, and I was there, and he spoke to me. And he was digging, which was symbolic of something he was trying to convey. I said, what are you doing? He said, I am digging a well. And I had to think: Abraham dug wells, Isaac reopened them, and what did Jacob do? Well, Jacob’s well is the well of the Samaritan woman, the well that would become that well we could drink from. So Jacob was trying to convey to me, look, this is symbolic of the life that you have received.

And then he said, go and read my story about what happened at Bethel. So I went to read it in Genesis, and it was an open heaven, angels ascending and descending, which is in John as well: none other than the house of God. And all of a sudden it was like, I am the house of God! Angels are ascending and descending, and there is an open heaven over my life.

That changed things significantly for me, into realising that this is not just a one-off event. This is a living way we should live, engaged with the angelic realm who are bringing messages from heaven, guiding us, directing us, protecting us.

But also it is more than that: heaven is open. We have access not just when we die, because we do not need to die. We have access now to dwell in that realm because we are seated with Christ in the heavenly places. Where is Christ seated? On a throne, next to the Father. And we are also seated on thrones next to the Father.

422. From Rejection to Acceptance | Understanding Your Identity in Christ

I have had a number of encounters with the cloud of witnesses. A couple of them were by my own desire. I wanted to talk to Adam. And then Esther came to me once in a meeting, and I thought, what do you want? And she said, I have come to remind you that you are called to the kingdom for a time such as this. I then thought, well, I want more than that. So I went into the cloud of witnesses, into the court of the upright, and I asked to see Esther and said, can you tell me more? And she went to her life being prepared and said, I did not want what was my destiny. I resisted it because I thought it was a bad thing for a Hebrew girl to be given to a foreign king as a concubine. She said, I was prepared, but I then recognised that God had prepared me for that to save my people. So she said, do not resist what God is doing in your life. Quite interesting.

I have had many encounters, with David and others, but also with some people who have died more recently, like Bob Jones. Bob Jones died on a Thursday. On the Sunday, I was in a meeting in worship, and Bob Jones turned up in front of me with a big scroll in his hand and said, will you receive this scroll? I said, well, what is it? He said, this is the scroll for the billionfold harvest. And I said, yes, I will receive it. But it became clear that that was about raising up a Joshua generation to be ready for the harvest that is coming, ready to disciple the harvest that is coming, pointing them into a supernatural lifestyle.

271. Being the Joshua Generation

So it was not that it was just given to me and I am this great person who has a scroll. It was a responsibility. You have been called to participate in preparing to receive a harvest. And there are a lot of people embracing that, thousands upon thousands figuratively, in that they are embracing their identity as sons of God, as part of the Joshua generation, who have a different spirit, who function in a different way, and who are called to be ready for the harvest, to receive it and help it come into an intimacy with God in sonship.
