122. The Power Of Testimony

Mike Parsons
with Jeremy Westcott

Then the Lord God took the man and put him into the garden of Eden to cultivate it and keep it (Gen 2:15).

God intends us to cultivate and keep our place of connection with heaven, so that we will be able to bring heaven to earth. We still have the mandate to cultivate the garden of our hearts. The garden does not just grow of its own accord. We have to plant seeds in our hearts if we want them to grow into trees which will produce fruit and ‘leaves for healing’ (Ezekiel 47:12).

What to plant

You may be asking, ‘what seeds do I plant?’

You can take the encounters you have had with God, the victories you have had in your life, the revelation He has given you, the testimonies you have, and plant them in your garden. It does not take a long time for them to grow into trees, because you can water them from the River of Life, and you can speak to them and call forth fruitfulness.

Now he who plants and he who waters are one; but each will receive his own reward according to his own labor.
(1 Cor 3:8)

There will be a reward from that planting, if we cultivate and tend the garden in our hearts.

The power of testimony

If you have a testimony that is sown into your garden, you can go back and take the fruit of that testimony and re-live it, and see it multiply. That is what it is for. Everything we have seen is a seed we can plant and it becomes a tree of that testimony and bears fruit. That is why we have trees with fruit in our garden in our hearts.

I do not want to see healing just once, I want to see healing over and over again. In fact I want to see every one of God’s promises over and over again. So when I have experienced something from the hand of God, I can be thankful, rejoicing, plant it in my garden, cause it to be watered and it will produce fruit that I can go back to over and over again.

I can draw from that on the inside, in order to produce it on the outside of me. So if I need an anointing of the Holy Spirit when I am praying for someone, I can draw it from within. I am not dependent on the atmosphere being filled with the anointing. I can draw the anointing from the inside of me using the testimony of what God has given me. What He has done before, He can release again. That is the power of testimony.

Watch over your heart

But if I want to be able to draw on it in the future, I need to plant it, to look after it, and nurture it. And I have to watch over my heart.

Watch over your heart with all diligence,
For from it flow the springs of life
(Proverbs 4:23).

Remember the four types of soil that Jesus spoke about in the parable of the sower. He explained to His disciples that the soil represents the heart. What is our heart like? Hard, so that no seeds can go in? Rocky, so that they cannot take root? Full of weeds, that choke out the new growth? Or good soil, that will produce a tree of life on the inside of us, that we can pick the fruit from, and eat?

If my heart is good soil, what I plant can grow and bear fruit.

What is in your garden?

My garden is full of things God has given me. There is a river, pools, and a waterfall. There is a door into the heavens. There is a green pasture with a big tablecloth set with all kinds of food I can go and eat from. There are trees. There is a yoke – I yoke myself to Jesus daily. All of those things are what God has given me by revelation in the heavenly realms, and I have planted them in there. There are even mountains. The mountains which represent my spheres of authority in the kingdom of God are now there in my garden.

Some of the things in my garden will also be in yours, and some will be unique to me. You can develop your own garden, in your own heart, and you will have things in there that are particular to you, precious to you; the things God has given to you, to enable you to draw on them every time you need them again.

What is in your garden?

121. River of Living Water

Mike Parsons
with Jeremy Westcott

Jesus said,

“… whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall never thirst; but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life” (John 4:14).

We have that wellspring in our life. To operate in the Kingdom of God, with the Presence of God, we need to draw living water from that well daily.

… Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, ‘From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water'” (John 7:37-8).

river

In, and out

That river is supposed to flow out from us, touching people around us with the presence and the power and the Kingdom of God. Does it? I need to ask myself, is there a river in me that I am drawing from, and is that river flowing from me to touch other people? If it is not touching other people, then it is stagnating… and a stagnant river stinks. My river needs to be flowing: flowing from heaven, flowing in through my spirit, flowing out from me, to minister to people and to the world around me, to demonstrate the kingdom of God.

How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked,
Nor stand in the path of sinners,
Nor sit in the seat of scoffers!

But his delight is in the law of the Lord,
And in His law he meditates day and night.

He will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water,
Which yields its fruit in its season
And its leaf does not wither;
And in whatever he does, he prospers.
(Psalm 1:1-3)

If we want to be prospering in our lives, succeeding to the highest degree in everything God has planned for us, we need to be drawing from the River of Life, not from our own resources.

Broken cisterns

In Jeremiah 2:13 we see how God was displeased because His people had turned away from Him and were drawing on their own resources, ‘broken cisterns that hold no water’. Our own cisterns can hold no water, and God wants us to be flowing with the water He provides.

The river brings life

But ‘It will come about that every living creature which swarms in every place where the river goes, will live. And there will be very many fish, for these waters go there and the others become fresh; so everything will live where the river goes’ (Ezekiel 47:9).

Wherever we go, with that River flowing from us, we are supposed to bring life: life to those around us, life to the world, life to our community. ‘Everything will live where the river goes’. That is a description of what our lives should be, overflowing with the presence of God, the love of God, bringing the life of God’s kingdom wherever we go.

We need to be connected to heaven for that River to flow in us.

By the river on its bank, on one side and on the other, will grow all kinds of trees for food. Their leaves will not wither and their fruit will not fail. They will bear every month because their water flows from the sanctuary, and their fruit will be for food and their leaves for healing (Ezekiel 47:12).

The water flows from the sanctuary, from the presence of God. We are the sanctuary, and the presence of God is within us. Everything about our life should be fruitful, full of healing, health and wholeness, and passing this on to others.

That is why we must
Watch over [our] heart with all diligence,
For from it flow the springs of life
(Proverbs 4:23).

120. God on the Inside

Mike Parsons
with Jeremy Westcott –

We’re looking to cultivate a relationship of intimacy with God so that we become one spirit with Him.

The Kingdom of Heaven is within us (Luke 17:20-21), and God has come to make His home in us (1 John 3:24). So we can meet with God anytime we want – He is right here inside us. In our hearts, as we saw yesterday, we each have a garden.  Our garden is a secret place we can go to on the inside of us, a place of relationship where we can meet and fellowship with God. We need to cultivate it. And in that garden, in our life, there is a wellspring: a fountain and a river.

We saw this scripture yesterday too:

And her wilderness He will make like Eden,
And her desert like the garden of the Lord;
Joy and gladness will be found in her,
Thanksgiving and sound of a melody.
(Isaiah 51:3).

Perhaps we might feel that inside of us is like a desert. Nothing growing there, no water there, no life. Have you ever seen one of those nature programmes with time-lapse images of how a desert is transformed by just a little rain? Within a few days the whole barren wasteland can be teeming with life, ablaze with colour. How does that happen? There were seeds waiting for water to cause them to germinate and spring into life.

(Click here to watch this clip on YouTube – opens in a new tab/window, or copy and paste this link into your browser: http://goo.gl/SdBbNN)

If it feels like a desert, our garden may be just waiting for us to water it. Then ‘joy and gladness will be found in [us], thanksgiving and the sound of a melody’. That is a lovely description of what our lives should be like: the sound of a melody. joining in with the symphony and the harmony of heaven.

Then the Lord God formed man of dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being. The Lord God planted a garden toward the east, in Eden; and there He placed the man whom He had formed… Now a river flowed out of Eden to water the garden; and from there it divided and became four rivers. (Gen 2:7-8, 10).

The Bible says of Lucifer, “You were in Eden, the garden of God” (Ezek 28:13). Eden is the garden of God. At this time, heaven and earth were overlapping, and earth was in connection and relationship with the heavenly realms, not separated as it is now. So the garden of God was in Eden and it was the same as the Garden of God in the heavenly realms. Then, it says, He planted another garden, and the water flowed out of Eden (the Garden of God) and watered that garden (which we call the Garden of Eden, the garden that God made for man). The garden God made for man on earth was connected to the Garden of God in heaven, by the River of Life.

They heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day… (Gen 3:8).

Adam walked with God: they enjoyed relationship in His garden, where the Tree of Life was. As a result of Adam and Eve’s sin, that garden and that Tree are now in heaven. Adam and Eve were driven out, and at the east of the garden God stationed cherubim with a flaming sword (they did not have flaming swords in their hands: the flaming sword is a living angelic creature). They were to guard the way to the Tree of Life (Gen 3:24) and stop Adam accessing that realm.

Jesus said, “… whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall never thirst; but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life” (John 4:14).

Now our lives have become the garden, connected to the Garden of God by the River of Life that is flowing into our lives, watering what was a desert. Our connection to the heavenly realms has been restored.

And rivers are also to flow out of our garden to water the earth, bringing the rule and dominion of God to the rest of the world, to the universe, and beyond.

119. One Spirit With Him

Mike Parsons
with Jeremy Westcott –

Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Or do you not know that the one who joins himself to a prostitute is one body with her? For He says, “The two shall become one flesh.” But the one who joins himself to the Lord is one spirit with Him. (1 Corinthians 6:15-17).

When we speak of intimacy, let us be clear on the kind of intimacy we are talking about. This verse is contrasting what it is to be joined sexually with somebody to become one flesh, and what it is to be joined with the Lord and become one spirit (which is the goal for us in pursuing intimacy). True intimacy is giving yourself to another. He has done that for us, and it is what He is seeking from us.

Patricia King wrote this in 2006, but it is still true for us today:

‘Get ready for a breakthrough unlike any other you’ve had in the past. You may have had breakthrough in your finances, or in other areas of your life, but this is a breakthrough into intimacy. That’s right, the King Himself has invited you into His chambers to tell you the secrets of His heart. The Lord is about to woo you into deeper levels of love, revelation, and passion. You’re breaking through a barrier of flesh, and entering a new season of relationship with the Lover of your soul.

You may have distanced yourself from Him because of fear, or doubt of where you stand in your relationship with Him. Today the Lord says, “Let My perfect love cast away all your fears.” Drop any preconceived notions you may have in your arms now and prepare for a full embrace with the King’.

Jesus said, ‘ I am in the Father, and you are in Me, and I am in you’ (John 14:20). You really can’t get much more intimate than that. When we give our lives to Him, when we enter into a personal relationship with Him, the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit come to live on the inside of us.

And in our heart there is a secret place, a garden:

And the Lord will continually guide you,
And satisfy your desire in scorched places,
And give strength to your bones;
And you will be like a watered garden,
And like a spring of water whose waters do not fail.
(Isa 58:11)

Indeed, the Lord will comfort Zion;
He will comfort all her waste places.
And her wilderness He will make like Eden,
And her desert like the garden of the Lord;
Joy and gladness will be found in her,
Thanksgiving and sound of a melody.
(Isa 51:3)

It is watered by the wellspring bubbling up (John 4:14) and a river of living water flowing (John 7:38); it is within us, and we can walk there with God, just as Adam and Eve did. This is a song we often use here at Freedom to ‘practise’ going there…

‘I’m no longer my own
I’m Your garden’.
(Misty Edwards – Garden)

118. Intimacy With The Father

Mike Parsons
with Jeremy Westcott –

God is calling us to intimacy. And that call to intimacy continues even as He brings in the subsequent phases of the Prophetic Timetable that He showed me. It has to be our first priority.

I know people struggle with intimacy with God, because I struggled with it myself. When I became a Christian I was about 12 years old and I had no concept of God being Father, because I didn’t have a very good relationship with my earthly father. When I prayed it was to Jesus or to ‘the Lord’. I never prayed to the Father, because I was wounded by my own father. And therefore I protected my heart.

We all need love and acceptance, and I sought that in relationships with other people (particularly girls, as most teenage boys would). And I found someone who I thought I loved – my ‘first love’ if you like. Then one afternoon I got really seriously hurt by her. On the bus on the way home I vowed that I would never be hurt like that again. I put a barrier around my heart which protected me from hurt and damage and kept everyone at arm’s distance. It kept me safe but also kept me locked up and in a prison. I became a very mental person, using my intellect to package things up so I didn’t have to deal with the emotions. I never really knew an intimate relationship with God or anybody else. So if Jesus was saying ‘Behold, I stand at the door and knock’ (Rev 3:20), I really struggled to open it.

Over the years, God met with me over various encounters and He began to heal my heart. The first time, I was in a small group of people worshipping when God spoke to me and said ‘I am your Father’. I struggled with the concept, as so many of us do because of our own fathers, but He broke through that and put His arms around me. I felt them, and I felt His presence, and it enabled me to begin to talk to Him and to communicate with him as ‘Father’.

Then I can remember when Hannah, our eldest daughter, was about one and a half years old. One day she toddled up to me as I was sitting on the settee, looked into my eyes and said ‘Daddy, I love you’. It broke me apart. I didn’t know how to receive it or respond to her. I was in tears.

But it challenged me to deal with the things in my heart. Those things that had protected and guarded me had also locked me up so that I couldn’t feel God’s love. We have to overcome the obstacles in our life that will stop us from experiencing intimacy.

If previous hurts and past experience cause us to protect ourselves, that will prevent us from fully entering into what God has for us. So when we find we are singing songs in our worship times about meeting God face to face, and dancing with Him, being in intimate relationship with Him, that will be a struggle for us if we are feeling wounded.

Now I thought I had dealt with all my wounds, but one time I was in heaven talking to Jesus and He said to me, ‘You have not met the Father’ and I knew inside that it was true. ‘It is because you have a father wound’, He explained. I was going to argue with Him – but there’s not much point in arguing with God. Still I said, ‘But I’ve forgiven everybody! I have forgiven my Dad, I have had ministry. And I have met with the Father before’ (I had, just not in heaven). And Jesus said, ‘You have a father wound’. He showed me a picture of my heart and it had a big scar all over it. He asked, ‘Will you let me heal it?’ and I said ‘OK’.

So for about 40 minutes the Father came to me and spoke to me and He just said the same words over and over again:’ I love you… I love you… I love you… I love you…’. Each word He spoke healed my heart. I looked down and the scar was gone. I had such wonderful times of intimacy with my Father.

It’s what He wants with every one of His children.

117. The Proof Of Desire

Mike Parsons
and Jeremy Westcott –

‘Pursuit is the proof of desire’, as our friend Graham Jones says. If we truly want to fulfil our destiny, let us set our heart towards it, set our desire upon it and go after it.

These are some thoughts on pursuing our destiny: I am just going to put them out there for now, without really developing them, but I would encourage you to read them with your spirit, and see what they spark in you…

  • There are two pathways into the heavenly realms: the pathway of relationship and the pathway of responsibility. Both offer opportunities for transformation. At times my focus and attention will be on one, at times on the other, but I will always be following both pathways.
  • I will not get anywhere without first enjoying intimacy with God. That involves seeing, hearing, feeling and experiencing both who He is and who I am.
  • We are not all the same, we each have our own song and destiny. I need to learn to resonate and come into agreement, come into harmony, with the whole symphony of heaven. There is a wonderful sound in the heavenly realms and it is beginning to be heard even in this realm: I can resonate with it, come into harmony with it and contribute to it my own unique sound and melody.
  • I will believe, and be in faith. ‘Without faith it is impossible to please God’. I have to trust Him, and go for it.
  • I will engage that desire for my destiny, step into alignment, and submit my life daily to the government of God and the lordship of Jesus.
  • I will purposely live for the unravelling of my scroll. I will not be content until I see it and am living according to it. No settling for second best; nothing half-hearted; totally committed to my destiny.
  • There are things I need to know (by experience, rather than know about). I need to know the testimony that is written in heaven for me. I need to know the blood of Jesus as my overcoming power, I need to know the revelation of my sonship. I need to know the courts in the heavenly realms, the gardens, the treasury room, the wine room, the record room, the mantle room and all the other places in the heavenly realms: places I have been, or other people have been. I need to know.
  • I need to know what is in heaven is in order to manifest it here; I need to know the authority I have there, in order to bring that rule here.

Then I will live in the dual realms of heaven and earth, and manifest heaven on earth through me.

116. Caterpillars, Butterflies and Superheroes

Mike Parsons
with Jeremy Westcott –

We all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as from the Lord the Spirit
(2 Corinthians 3:18).

Transformation, transfiguration, change, metamorphosis: they are all English translations of the same word in the Bible.

We are all in the process of change. You might have noticed we have a butterfly on our logo. A butterfly is not the same as a caterpillar, although it comes from a caterpillar. And sons of God, sons of light, will not be the same as we were before being transformed into the image of Jesus. As we saw, sons will have 12 active DNA strands; we will be actively fulfilling our destinies, and our full supernatural abilities will be restored.

I love films and TV programmes about superheroes. There are a whole load of them out there, because the writers are picking up on something that is coming out of heaven. Why do I like them so much? Because I know those are some of the abilities I am going to have. I am going to be like Superman, because that is what Jesus was like (except He didn’t have to worry about Kryptonite because the devil had nothing on Him). And He was like that in a perverse and unbelieving generation, whereas we are going to be in the midst of the greatest revival the world has ever seen, surrounded by millions of supernatural beings like ourselves, and we are going to do greater works than He did.

Let’s get back to the caterpillar. In the pupa stage, the caterpillar’s DNA is literally turned to complete mush. It’s a whole furnace of activity in there and eventually a butterfly comes out, which can fly. You can watch the whole thing in this short video clip:

Do you want to fly? I want to fly in my destiny. I don’t want to be a chicken flapping its wings and not going anywhere, I want to be an eagle, flying, fulfilling everything that God’s got for me. I am sure this is one reason prophetic people among us are seeing eagles.

For God who said ‘light shall shine out of darkness’ is the One who shone in our hearts, to give light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ
(2 Corinthians 4:6)

That light and that knowledge are shining into our hearts to transform us and bring us into the place where we are demonstrating the glory of God.

Now, if you don’t really know God, then firstly you need to meet Him for yourself, be re-connected to Him, and in relationship with Him surrender your life to Him day by day. Once you know God, you can start to engage your destiny, day one, now. Your past is forgiven and wiped out and you have a new future.

It’s our destiny, our inheritance, but we have to take it. We have to choose to line up with God’s desires for us, surrender to our destiny, and then we can be restored back to original creation. We can become what we were always supposed to be.

115. A Channel of God

Mike Parsons
with Jeremy Westcott

Jesus was transfigured here on earth and shone with glory.

That is God’s intention for all of us, to be shining with the glory of God. We can begin to manifest the glory of God through our lives as we become a channel of God living in us.

Now again, you may be suspicious of this because channelling is something New Age people do. But, as we saw last time, people can grasp a concept which is true, but go on to apply it in a way which is not always how God intends.

God is on the inside of us, in our spirit, and if He wants to manifest on the outside of us then He needs to come through our soul and body. So we become a channel, an interface between God and the world around us, a means through which He can manifest. When Jesus did all the miracles and the things that He did, it was the Father in Him manifesting His works.

God is calling us into that same relationship, to do the things that we see the Father doing. It all springs from the revelation that comes as we are transformed from one degree of glory to another.

When we speak about ‘transformation’, it is not simply that our behaviour will change. That is what I was highlighting in the previous post about our DNA. If we submit to the process of transformation, we will not just enjoy closer, more intimate times with God, or overcome life-damaging behaviours (important though those things are). No, we will be radically changed, transformed into ‘sons of light’.

Even the phrase ‘sons of light’ speaks of something far beyond what most people probably imagine it to mean. At the very least, we will recover some of the abilities latent within our DNA. They will be switched back on, restoring what Adam had before he sinned, and even beyond that.

We may not have grasped all the details – yet. Indeed, however much of this we have understood, God is able to do far more than we could ask or even imagine.

114. Twelve Strands, Twelve Stones

Mike Parsons
with Jeremy Westcott –

When Adam was created a spirit being, he was clothed with glory. Spirit, soul, body – but his spirit was on the outside and his body on the inside. There was no blood, because he was a being of light.

Adam originally had one triple-helix with three DNA strands that represented body, soul and spirit made in the image of God. He was created with the potential to become a fully mature son of God, embracing the nine strands (3×3) of DNA that represent the fullness of God, added to his three strands to form the twelve that represents the fullness of government.

I will go into this in more detail in the rest of this post, but what is important to grasp is that we have the capacity to change, to be transformed, at a level beyond what most of us have ever imagined.

97% inactive DNA

Sin caused the DNA light strands to be lost (the wavelengths of God that were within us). Now we only have 3% of our DNA which is active. 97% of it is inactive, but encoded.

Russian scientists, working in the human genome project, found that there was language and syntax within the 97% and that it could be changed and re-encoded by frequencies, sounds or even words within a laser light beam. Recent research has confirmed that this area of DNA has triggers or switches that can be turned on and off (for example by the environment, words, or trauma), and that what they turn on are genetic abilities and weaknesses. We can be conformed to the image of God, and again become a transfigured being of light, because our DNA has the capacity to be re-sequenced.

[A new field of scientific study called epigenetics shows that not only can DNA be changed, but that those changes can be passed on to the next generation: scientific study now agreeing with what the Bible said all along about iniquity being passed on to the third and fourth generation.]

Adam’s spirit imploded into his innermost being when he sinned, so his spirit was now on the inside. And God gave him skin. God did not kill an animal and wrap its skin around the man: He gave him skin, three layers of it, to cover his blood, because blood is congealed light (that may sound strange, but if you do a Google search, you will find scientific thinking going that way).

Adam lost his ability to access the spiritual realm, because the DNA of light was lost to him, therefore he became a human being with a double helix of 2 physical DNA strands. When we are born again and our spirit is properly re-engaged with our soul and body, we get our third strand of light DNA back.

So Adam had three DNA strands: two containing physical DNA, and one, light. Light can contain coded information – we are familiar with fibre optic cable being used in modern technology to carry information, data, sound and so on. In the light strand of DNA , there is coded information which may be sound, frequency, fragrance and mathematical formulae relating to our destiny or spiritual identity.

God spoke to me about this back in 2010, but I didn’t share it at all for 12 months because I needed to meditate on it and see if the scriptures had anything to say about it. What I found was that it relates to the nine stones covering Lucifer’s body (Ezekiel 28): those stones represented the nine strands of God’s DNA. In the same chapter we read about Satan being on the fire stones: I have been on those fire stones, and there are nine of them. And there are nine steps to ascension.

Now you may think that all sounds like Buddhism. But where do you think Buddhism got its truth from? Like everyone else, Buddhists can perceive the truth that God reveals. People of many different persuasions have taken that truth, interpreted it and applied it according to their own understanding or purposes, so it comes out twisted and distorted (to a greater or lesser degree). Look at science fiction and fantasy writers around the world, they are picking up a sound that is coming out of heaven. They interpret it through their own soul, to produce books and films and TV series or whatever, but there is truth in it. Christians are not exempt from doing the same thing!

Maturity as sons

Man was not created perfect: he was created sinless. If Adam had not sinned, he would still have needed to be conformed to the image of Jesus and become like Him. So there was a process in which Lucifer, before he rebelled, was given the authority to tutor man into becoming like a Son of God.

We originally had three strands of DNA because we were made in the image of God: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. God has nine light strands of DNA: three from the Father, three from Jesus, and three from the Spirit. The revelatory knowledge contained in the nine strands of God’s DNA was to bring us into maturity as sons. Lucifer was to tutor man in this, and it was represented by the nine stones that covered his body (as one of the cherubim, he covered the throne of God, and as light-bearer he was to reflect the revelatory light of God into the universe).  Instead, as we know, he took that knowledge and traded on it, and a third of the angels followed him.

Twelve stones

Now look at the High Priest’s breastplate, and there are twelve stones. Nine, the same stones that covered Lucifer’s body, and three extra stones. That was what got him all riled up, because man was to have three extra stones, the stones of sonship. Human DNA has always been a battlefield (Gen 3:15), and we have written before about the seed wars, the conflict between Satan’s seed and the seed of woman. That war has been raging throughout the ages and is being fought today in the arena of GRIN technologies, the current battlefield.

God desires to bring us back into perfect sonship, so He wants to transform our DNA. He wants to transform us to become again sons of light, just as Jesus was transfigured here on earth and shone with glory.

Twelve stones (9 + 3) represents full government, full authority of God and man in unity, joined and one spirit (1 Cor 6:17). God always intended us to become fully mature co-heirs with Him, and jointly to rule the created universe, both spiritual and physical.

That is what it means for us to be the sons of God.

113. Two Resonating Testimonies

Mike Parsons
with Jeremy Westcott –

For the flesh sets its desire against the spirit, and the spirit against the flesh, for these are in opposition to one another, so that you may not do the things that you please
(Galatians 5:17).

Battle on the inside

As soon as we get born again, there is a battle on the inside.

The flesh and the spirit start wrestling for control. The soul and body have been calling the shots for our whole life, and they do not want to submit. All of a sudden, our spirit is alive and connected with God, God lives on the inside of us. So now we face choices, every day, every moment. Surrender our life to our spirit, or to our soul.

Two resonating testimonies start to compete, and will create destructive interference patterns unless we consistently decide to choose one over the other.

The flesh does not want what our spirit wants, and vice versa. If we end up doing the things our flesh wants, our spirit is not happy (and God is not pleased either). Let’s be honest with ourselves: which is winning the contest? How much of each day are we living according to God’s purposes and plans for our lives, and how much are we just drifting through it, living according to the whims of our flesh? We need daily to surrender to the purposes of God for us.

And He was saying to them all, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross daily and follow Me (Luke 9:23).

Living sacrifices

I have posted before about how we surrender ourselves as a living sacrifice, daily. As we do, we are transformed, so that we can come into our destiny.

Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect (Rom 12:1-2).

Our mind is not our brain. It is our subconscious, which is in our heart.

For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart (Heb 4:12).

As we line up with the word of God, both with the scripture and with what He has written on our scroll of destiny, that will have an effect on the thoughts and intentions of our heart. Will those thoughts come from our spirit or from our flesh?

The choice is ours to make.
