Praying in Tongues: Learning to Live in Dual Realms

Praying in tongues is a very interesting thing. When I first learned to pray in tongues in the spirit, particularly when I was engaging heaven and engaging supernatural dimensions, it was very much something that was going to help me understand how to do two things at once. I didn’t quite understand why, but God then showed me later that this was going to help me understand how to live in two places at once, how to operate in the soul and the spirit at the same time, how to function connected soul and spirit. So I did a lot of practising: praying in tongues while I was speaking out loud, praying in tongues in my mind while I was reading the Bible, praying in tongues in my head, all sorts of different things. I’ve practised a lot with it.

And then, as I became more intimate with God, and got to know God, my senses were more trained to engage him, and I was having daily encounters and conversations with God all the time. I felt that the praying in tongues aspect of it was something I didn’t need to do any more for this purpose. I stopped, though not as a deliberate decision that I wasn’t going to pray in tongues any more. I might sing in the spirit at times, or do different things, but the purpose of it was no longer something I was practising with. I was able to live in this way, so it lessened in how I would pray in tongues in that particular way. There are various things that also lessened while I was doing that, in terms of the ministry style I was involved in. God really challenged me on helping people to engage God themselves, rather than prophesying over them or ministering to them in that way. So praying in tongues in that context became unnecessary.

508. God’s Desire For You | Discovering True Intimacy

But what I did find was that, as my spirit was engaging and dwelling in the realms of heaven all the time, it began to engage on its own, and I found myself praying in tongues, like when I woke up, or at a particular time, all of a sudden I would be praying in tongues. I didn’t choose to do that. It wasn’t something I thought, I’m going to pray in tongues now because this is a gift I have, I can use this gift. It didn’t happen that way. I just found myself praying in tongues. So then I would wonder, what’s going on? It felt like my spirit was communicating, “Hey, pay attention. There’s something here for you!” Maybe I’ve encountered something during the night, or whatever, now just tune into it. So I found that whenever I started praying in tongues like that, it was a signal: what’s going on, what do I need to look into, is there something I need to focus on here? I became sensitive to the fact that my spirit could be functioning and doing all sorts of things while I wasn’t consciously aware of it. And this gave me the sense that maybe I needed to engage, that my consciousness needed to be aware of this. So I would tune into it, look into it, and maybe go and engage where my spirit was. I sort of felt that was part of where I was then.

523. How We Can All Connect with God

So I think there’s definitely a decreased need to pray in the spirit in tongues when you’re engaging in the spirit, because you’re dwelling there. You’re not talking to God in another language, because you’re engaging with God face to face. I believe, as we mature and increase in our experience of God in the spirit, and dwell with him and abide with him there, there’s definitely less need to pray in tongues the way we did before. It talks about edifying your spirit, building up your spirit, and I certainly used it for that. I used it to pray all the time, in my mind or out loud. But I found my spirit had this bubbling energy within, as it got activated, that I felt all the time; it felt like my spirit was engaged. That was the sort of residue of the fact that I could live in dual realms.

276. Living In Dual Realms

I was dwelling in dual realms, so my spirit was always active, and I just felt that connection. Even though I wasn’t always conscious of it, it certainly was something I felt was very real, a sign that my spirit was active and functioning as it was intended. We live in multiple realms in that way.

537. The Dance of Perichoresis | Embracing the Eternal Now

The eternal now

God dwells within the eternal now, which would be outside of time and space, but not disconnected from it. I’ve found that there are ways God has drawn me into the eternal now to experience his presence in that pure essence, and I describe it as perichoresis: the circle of the dance, the conversation between Father, Son, and Spirit, where there is pure relationship, pure love, pure everything that God is that he has invited us into. We came from that place, out of his heart. He created us there within his heart, and we were not separated from his heart until he formed creation. And when he made creation, he then formed us to engage with creation, both in the spirit but also when we become living beings on earth, and therefore we can go back to the place which I call home.

536. Reframe Your Reality: The Process of Mind Renewal

You know, it’s sort of, for me, the place of pure intimacy, pure face-to-face engagement, but outside of time and space, and therefore disconnected from this realm in a way that means I’m not distracted or affected by this realm when I’m in that realm, and I can be in that realm in the purity of God. I find that it’s very difficult to engage it cognitively, in that I can’t figure it out or work it out, because it’s nonlinear and it’s not like this realm. But the relationship is there. Now, that realm relates to the created realm, and there also I can engage God in the realm of perfection in light, which is connected to this realm and that realm, and I find I engage God’s heart there for the outworking of his heart into this realm, the created realm where I can engage God face to face. In that realm, in the purity of light, but it’s connected with this realm in its governmental aspect.

I engage in the relational aspect within the purity of God in what I call the eternal now, and it is pure relational love. But I also engage God relationally in relation to his government in the realm of light and perfection. So I am face to face, heart to heart, mind to mind with him there. Jesus said he only did what he saw the Father doing. You know Jesus said, I am in the Father and the Father is in me. That is the place where I engage, where I only outwork what I feel the father’s heart is. I’m engaged relationally, but I’m also engaged governmentally.

293. Expanding God’s Government of Peace

Pure love relationship

When I engage outside of time and space within the eternal now, it is pure, intimate relationship. If God is infinite and eternal, then everything that he has created has been created within a space within him. So it isn’t separate from him, but it is in a space within him which is within him in a different way.

This is where, it’s like, God is everything in everything, and all that, we live and move and have our being in him, and he fills all in all, and there are lots of Bible verses that indicate his connection with creation. But for me, the pure essence of God, in what I call perichoresis, is what the early church fathers used for the description of the trinitarian relationship of Father, Son, and Spirit in pure love relationship, and we are invited to be in the midst of that. That’s where we were formed within the Father’s heart, and that’s where we can learn to dwell and engage. And because we are made in his image and likeness as sons, we have access there that the other angelic beings don’t.

There were various routes that I found, that God took me to that place, even though I didn’t understand it, and I couldn’t figure it out. So to start with I just had to park my intellect outside, if you like, and not try and figure it out. It was an experience, not knowledge; so it’s not knowledge as intellectual knowledge, it was experiential knowledge. I couldn’t describe it in a visual sense, because it was beyond a visual expression. I couldn’t describe it, as an image, but I can describe the intensity of the love relationship that I’m included in. And it’s the pure, absolute essence of who God is, relationally, that we all are invited to participate within, in the purity of it.

390. The Essence of Wisdom: Living in Union with the Father

And that, I think, is why we can’t try and figure it out or understand it — you just have to experience it — and it is life-changing, because what you find within that is who you are. God reveals… I mean, that really is the sort of mirror that we look into, in its purest essence, to discover who we are, free from any connection to what’s happened to us in this realm.

520. Angels Among Us | Engage and Appreciate

Mike Parsons

One thing to be aware of is that we can make judgments for angels, not negative judgments but positive ones, in thanking them and being aware of the things they do. We can give thanks for their help and for the things they show us. We are not worshipping angels by thanking them for the job they have done, or when they help us out, or when they show us something. It is simply having an attitude of thanksgiving that respects and honours them for what they are doing in our lives. That attitude builds the relationship.

They are not slaves. They are not there as slaves to do everything we demand. They are there to serve us in our heirship, in our co-heirship with Christ. That is the outworking of their role. They are not there to do our every whim, although they do help in many different ways. The important thing is that we maintain the right attitude towards them.

There are different orders of angels. There are individual angels with individual names, and then there are the orders to which they belong, which is a corporate name. For example, what I understand about guardian angels is that they tend to be the same angels with us consistently. When I engaged with the four angels of transformation, however, they were part of an order of angels, and they would be different ones at different times when I travelled.

In ministry settings we had four angels connected with the ministry who were always the same when we gathered. Angels clearly have function and purpose. They operate within positions that are part of the role they fulfil.

People sometimes ask whether angels get tired or weary. I do not think so, because they are spiritual beings and they do not function in the same way we do as human beings who need food and drink and rest. I do not think they get worn out or tired, although sometimes they might get worn out with us when we are off doing crazy things. But generally they are spiritual beings who carry out the purposes they have been given.

I have engaged, for example, with what I would call the court of chancellors, where there are chancellor angels present. They are not always the same angels each time. Perhaps some are engaged elsewhere in other responsibilities. I do not imagine they are having a tea break, but there may be times when they go and focus on worshipping the Father. That may be their break from us, if you like, to re-engage the Father and enjoy that connection with Him.

Because of that, there may be angels who rotate through different assignments within their purposes rather than doing the same thing continually. They may have a variety of responsibilities. As the saying goes, a change is as good as a rest. Although they are not likely to get bored in the presence of God, they do have personality and they do interact.

We should not treat angels as if they are almost inanimate. They are created beings with a personality and a purpose. When we respect and honour that, we will probably learn more about how they operate and what they do. We can always ask them. Whether they choose to tell us or not is another matter, but what they will never do is draw attention to themselves. They always want to point us towards God.

I discovered this through my own experiences engaging the heavenly realms. My throne in heaven on a mountain was symbolic of my position of government. When I engaged that realm I would focus on sitting on the throne and carrying out what I needed to do from that position, making declarations, legislation and decrees.

Later, when I began helping other people engage with their own thrones, I became aware of something I had never noticed before. As I approached my throne I saw an angel standing behind it. I had never noticed that angel previously. I asked, “Who are you?” and he told me his name. Then I asked, “What do you do?” and he replied, “I help you to rule here.”

I then asked how long he had been there. He said, “All the time. While you were not here, I was here.” When I heard that I realised that there had been many occasions when I had been sitting there not really knowing what I was doing, while there was an angel present who could have helped me. I simply was not aware of him because my attention was focused elsewhere.

Once I became aware of him, I began to interact with him. He never drew attention to himself, and he never seemed annoyed that I had ignored him for so long. After all, I did not even know he was there. When I did engage with him he was very friendly and very active in helping me.

From that point on I would sometimes communicate with him when I was unsure about what I should do from that position of government or how to outwork my identity there. I might ask questions, and I discovered that many things in the heavenly realms were present the whole time even though I had not noticed them before. Sometimes I did not see something the first time, or the second time, or even the third time I engaged that realm, simply because my attention was focused elsewhere.

This angel had been assigned to me as my heavenly angel. Jesus spoke about angels who are in heaven in that sense, and through that experience I learned to engage with him more intentionally. In those early days I often did not really know what I was doing, but the angel knew far more than I did. Over time I realised that this angel had been involved in many of the processes of change and transformation in my life.

In a sense, that angel was governing from that throne to ensure that eventually I would be seated there in a cognitive way. It was very helpful learning how to interact with the angelic realm and recognising how they assist us in outworking our identity and purpose.

519. From Belief to Truth: Deconstruction, Revelation, and the Restoration of All Things

Mike Parsons

No video? Click here.

There are two aspects to what God’s purpose is. One aspect is God deconstructing people from the belief systems they have which are hindering them from fulfilling their destiny and outworking God’s heart. That is the process we are all in: a process of deconstruction, a renewal of the mind, bringing us into the truth. Some of that comes by revelation, because revelation needs to illuminate the darkness of the things we have believed.

So there is a process we are all in. The key is to follow that process in your own life so you can find your identity and fulfil your destiny, not to follow every revelation that is out there. There is revelation out there which may well be for people in their particular circumstances that may not apply to you, and may not apply to me. God reveals things in ways that reach some people and will not reach other people, and that has always been the case. I do not really have a problem with there being lots of revelation. I only pursue that which I resonate with the Father’s heart in.

That means I am not drawn off by, “Oh, this amazing revelation about this,” or “Oh, this teaching about that.” I find some things are irrelevant to my daily walk in relationship with God. Whether I know something or do not know something makes little difference to how I live and outwork love on a daily basis. For me, I am just not interested in those things. There are other things which are revelatory that do impact how I live out my daily relationship with God. Therefore I will pursue those things.

So that is one aspect of what God is doing: the process of renewing our minds and bringing us into conformity with His image and who He made us to be, so that we are not pressed into the mould the world has shaped us in. I do not have a problem with different revelation reaching different people in different ways.

When it comes to what God’s purpose is in a global or cosmic sense, that purpose is the restoration of all things. The restoration of all things will take place as we embrace our identity as sons of God, because God uses our sonship to bring about restoration. Creation itself is longing and waiting for the revealing of the sons of God. But you cannot have the revealing of the sons of God without the renewing of the sons of God’s minds to know the truth of who they are and to know God’s heart. You need both of these things happening together for God’s ultimate purpose to be outworked.

If creation is going to be set free from its bondage to corruption and decay, then you need the sons of God to be revealed, because creation will be set free into the freedom of the glory of the children of God. Therefore the children of God must know their glory, their identity, their heavenly clothing, for creation to recognise them and for creation to be set free. As more and more people become illuminated to the truth of who they are, more of creation begins to respond.

What I am not interested in is information that has no relevance to my everyday life and to the restoration of all things. There is lots of teaching which may be very interesting, but I am not interested in it if it does not relate to where God’s heart is for me at that point in time. Some people may be interested in those things, and that may be part of their journey.

I remember more than twenty years ago engaging with the righteousness of God. God was speaking to me about righteousness and about being the righteousness of God. At that time I was still thinking within the evangelical framework I had come from, so what God was trying to show me I only partially understood. But it was the beginning of something.

I read a book by Creflo Dollar about the righteousness of God, and when I read it I thought, “This is exactly what God has been sharing with me.” It opened the door for me to understand it more. Creflo Dollar came from the faith movement and the prosperity movement, but today he is preaching from the Mirror Bible and has renounced tithing within the new covenant. In many ways he has been on a journey parallel to the one I have been on, though from a different direction.

I believe God is drawing people together for His overall purpose of the restoration of all things, and they are coming from many different directions. The Grace Awakening Network is one place where people carrying the grace message, the finished work of Jesus and covenant fulfilment are beginning to connect. People such as Creflo Dollar, John Crowder, Francois du Toit and Baxter Kruger are all there. They come from different perspectives, but they are being drawn into the same flowing river, which is God’s purpose.

Several years ago I prophesied that four streams would begin to flow into one river, and I believe we are seeing that now. Some people come through fulfilled eschatology. Some come through the mystic dimension of sonship. Some come through experiences of God’s love,  or through understanding refining fire rather than the traditional view of hell. Others come through healing, light and energy. These streams may look different, but they are all moving toward the same river that brings restoration to the world.

Different revelation helps draw people from the streams they are in so that they can move toward that same river. People are often limited by the perspective they already have, so God uses different approaches to lead them forward.

For me personally, I do not feel the need to chase after every revelation. Sometimes that is because I already understand the principle, and sometimes it is simply because I did not come from that direction. The important thing is not to chase personalities or charisma. Christianity is not free from the problem of celebrity culture, and we must be careful not to follow people instead of following God.

I do not want people to follow me. I want them to follow Jesus. That is why I tell people not to believe something simply because I say it. Go to the Father and allow Him to reveal truth to you in the context of your own sonship. Some people may inspire you to go back to God and discover things for yourself, and that is good. Others may not, and that is fine.

If we tried to listen to all the teaching that is available, we would never have time to do anything else. Personally, I cannot remember the last time I regularly listened to other teaching, because most of my time is spent listening to God as He directs my life and reveals more of my sonship. He continues to unveil who I am as a son of God and restore me to the origin of who He created me to be so that I can be a son revealed to creation.

That, honestly, is what I am most interested in.

They didn’t believe it in the early church. There was no penal
substitutionary atonement. The atonement, or what Jesus did on the cross, was Christus Victor, mostly. Christ victorious over what? Our lost identity, our death, over everything. A very different view of what Jesus did.

But Protestantism very quickly picked up on penal substitutionary atonement and it became the cornerstone of Calvinism and lots of other streams of thought. When that got removed, and when that evangelical pillar crumbled, all the other pillars started to wobble.

So sola scriptura was the second pillar. Well, without evangelicalism holding it up, that went over, which is why it changed my whole view about the Bible, the way I see the Bible, and the Bible being ‘the word of God’ and all that stuff: “It’s got to be in the Bible!” and  all the challenge that came
with that, because God totally took me to task over it.

Mike Parsons

1. Misunderstandings Around Healing and Science

Now, Christians who would call this kind of thing new age often do not realise they are contradicting themselves. They will say the Bible supports healing—but as soon as you begin to explore how it might actually happen, they object. They treat it as if it is magic. And that is the issue: Christians who are not really tuned in tend to think, “Well, God just heals. It just happens.”

They are quite happy with the idea that it happens as if by magic, but as soon as you begin to explain the science—or the spiritual mechanics—they say, “Oh no, that is not faith. You should not be trying to work out how it happens.” But God did show us how it happens.

2. The Conflict with Traditional Beliefs

God literally showed me how to generate anointing. We had been dependent on the Holy Spirit giving us a gift of healing—then we would lay hands on people, and sometimes they would feel heat in our hands, tingling energy, or even be overwhelmed and fall to the floor. There was always something tangible taking place.

Then God said to me, “I want you to focus on what I said you could do—lay hands on the sick and see them recover.” So I began to focus my intention, agreeing with what God said, and releasing that intention through my hands.

3. Understanding Spiritual Healing

What I was doing was channelling the energy flowing from the Spirit within me—rivers of living water, as Jesus described—out of my innermost being and into others. Now, the moment you use the word channelling, people react. “You cannot use that word!” they say. But it simply means something is flowing from within me to someone else.

That is all that happens when anyone lays hands on another person. Energy is flowing. But people do not like the terminology, so they reject the whole idea. That is a huge barrier. But God showed me that my intention, focused in agreement with His word, could direct that energy through my hand and into someone’s body.

4. Personal Insights on Anointing

Back in the 1940s and 50s, healing revivalist William Branham would place his hand on someone and feel vibrational energy. He could then name the disease they had without being told. He said an angel had taught him how to do it. There is even a famous photo of him with a visible halo of light over his head, taken long before the days of Photoshop—people could not explain it.

He had learned how to tune into something God was using to administer healing. I am not saying everyone has to do this the same way—but we can learn to tune into frequencies.

5. The Role of Intention in Healing

For example, you can use crystal bowls to create a sound bath. You place the bowls around a person and play them. The sound surrounds them—immerses them in a frequency. You can release intention into that frequency. You can also place the bowls on the body—on the chest or in the hand—and when played, you can feel the energy resonate through you.

There was one large bowl, probably two and a half feet across, that you could stand in. When played, your whole body vibrated. It was powerful. I had a sound bath in Phoenix, Arizona. The man used crystal bowls and Tibetan singing bowls—he placed them on my back and legs.

6. Challenging the Terminology

The moment he started playing them, I went straight into a deep encounter with God. It was instant. I became aware of all sorts of things happening—at a deep spiritual level. God spoke to me in that space. Afterwards, I asked the man what he had seen and felt. What he shared was exactly what I had experienced too.

It was a very positive encounter. The man is a Christian and uses this practice to help people—often to set them free or bring healing, especially those who feel oppressed or depressed. It surrounds them with peace—cocoons them in sound and intention. That atmosphere of peace can bring real relief and restoration.

There is much God is revealing about frequency and intention. It is not about new age—it is about rediscovering how creation itself was designed to work.
