My own journey and the experiences I have described to you over many years are just one example of what can happen, not something that everyone has to go through in the same way. Walk in relationship with the Father, and let Him set the agenda.
When I was fasting and engaging with God for the first time in 2010, I went through an exhaustive process of applying the blood of Jesus to the gateways of my soul, as I had heard Ian Clayton explain. It worked for me because of my disciplined nature, but I wouldn’t necessarily advise everyone to take that same approach. Instead, allow the Father to show you what He wants to deal with, and provide you with the right tools for that specific work. It’s about using the appropriate method for the job, rather than trying to force something that doesn’t fit.
Flexibility and responsiveness to the Holy Spirit are the key, not trying to impose a rigid, one-size-fits-all process. In something like Engaging God I can provide some resources, but nowadays I would advise letting the Father direct how they are applied in each person’s unique journey. Simply surrender as a living sacrifice, and allow Jesus, your High Priest, to prepare you. Keep walking in relationship with the Father, and let Him set the agenda. I have found that a formulaic, systematic approach is not the way God does things. Use the tools provided as the Spirit leads, not as a program to work through. Each person’s journey is unique, and the relational, responsive approach led by the Father is far more effective than trying to systematically fix ourselves. So be at rest and do not strive.
The finished work of the cross is indeed complete, but we may not always be fully aware of (or benefiting from) everything that Jesus accomplished. Transformation comes through the renewing of our minds, as we come to a deeper realisation of God’s amazing unconditional love, limitless grace, and triumphant mercy. That is what enables us to change, not because we have to in order to be acceptable to God, but because the revelation of what He has already done for us leads us into transformation.
The journey of restoration and wholeness is a relational one, and the pace at which it unfolds is relative to each person’s unique circumstances. Some may experience swift breakthroughs, while others who are deeply broken may need more time to fully trust God and allow Him access to the depths of their being. The key is to simply follow God’s lead, without setting your own agenda. Present yourself daily as a living sacrifice, and let Him guide you on the path He has for you. Resist the temptation to compare yourself to others or try to figure it all out through your own knowledge and strength. Trust Him, enjoy the journey, and allow Him to bring things to the surface when the time is right. This keeps the process relational and joyful, rather than heavy or burdensome.
Summary
I believe that God will lead you into the wholeness and restoration He has for you, at the pace that is perfect for your unique journey. The invitation is to rest in His love, walk closely with Him, and let Him do the work. When we do that, the transformation He desires to bring about in us can unfold in a positive and life-giving way.

But do not let this one fact escape your notice, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like one day. (2 Peter 3:8).
Someone on a Mystic Mentoring session recently asked about this scripture, and about the seventh millennium (seventh day) therefore being a season of rest.
Personally, I don’t really hold too much to the ‘thousand years as seasons’ theory, that now we’re in the 7th millennium, we are in the season of rest. That is just adding up the years in the biblical genealogies and has little to do with reality.
But I do think rest is something which is built into creation, and it was previously revealed as one day in seven but now as all seven days. We have entered into Jesus: He is the rest and He is the fulfilment of all the promises. So we live in every day being a new day (so for me, we live in the eighth day, not the seventh). Every day is a new day, a new beginning. Every day has fresh mercies. Every day we live in rest and that is perpetual replenishment or restoration.
Light is slowing down
It does not say that a day is a thousand years, just that a day is like a thousand years. Everything in terms of time is related to the speed of light; and the speed of light has been slowing down as it has moved away from the speed of creative light. This was discovered by a couple of Christian astrophysicists, Trevor Norman and Barry Setterfield, who put together a scientific paper on the slowing down of the speed of light. It is really difficult to get a paper like that published when it has to be peer reviewed, because if it doesn’t agree with what scientists already believe then they won’t publish it. To start with, it wasn’t accepted and they were called cranks, but eventually some more mainstream scientists also discovered that light was slowing down.
They extrapolated that, at the speed of light in the beginning, seven days then would equate to something over 13 billion years now. But since it is relative to the observer, we would never know. That explains why the earth appears to be older than adding up the years in the Bible account would suggest: because it is! For man that has only appeared to be 7000 years because of the relativity of the speed of light.
So science actually indicates that the earth is not just 7000 years old, and in any case, no-one knows how long Adam and Eve lived before they fell and time really kicked in – time did not function in the same way as it does today until they stepped outside of God’s eternal now. Things changed significantly at that point on the earth.
This is not about there being a long period of evolution: I do not believe in evolution. Man was created and the animals were created, but the earth is not just 7000 years old either. Both can be true. People come up with all sorts of theories to account for any discrepancies, but I would prefer to focus on the fact that we can live in rest as a state of being (rather than just a period of rest associated with the 7th millennium).
Rest
What does it mean to be in rest? For me it is about not functioning under the tree of the knowledge of good and evil and therefore not functioning in works. Rest is the opposite of works, so when we live in the rest of what Jesus has done we don’t have to work for our own redemption and reconciliation. That has been done, so we rest in it: we can just be, we don’t have to do.
Everything in religion is about doing: you have to ‘do’ to earn rest. You work for six days so you can earn your rest for the seventh day. No, we are living in perpetual Sabbath. Essentially, we are continually in rest because now, Jesus is our rest.
“Come to Me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28).
That is the key for us, living in a state of being which is not functioning in an old system of works and therefore not being deceived into having to work for God’s favour and blessing; receiving it as His children through grace and mercy, not by works.
Every religious system will get you to try to do something to earn what you already have. So you just go round and round, because you already have it and doing something won’t actually make that true, it just stops you from realising that it is already true.
Are we there yet?
It’s like when you are travelling with your children and they keep asking, ‘Are we there yet?’ In religion, it’s always ‘not yet’. For some, it will be in this period or that period a thousand years in the future – it is coming, it’s just ‘not yet’. And to get there, you’ve got to do this and you’ve got to do that, otherwise it won’t happen. This just messes people up, gets them into a performance-orientated way of living, and so they don’t enjoy life. They are continually striving for something that already belongs to them; and if they would just stop, they would discover what it is to receive and be at rest.
We are already unconditionally loved and forgiven and everything has been accomplished, so we can live in rest and discover our true identity as sons from that place of rest, rather than doing all the things we are doing to prove we are sons.
The restoration of all things
With religion, you get a lot of ‘shoulds’. You should do this, you should do that. There are no ‘shoulds’. There is no ‘should do’ anything, it is just being. And then everything flows from being.
If we are in the seventh millennium, then why isn’t there rest? The world doesn’t exactly seem to be in the throes of rest. For most people, things are just as bad as they were in the sixth millennium. It is not as if we have crossed over into this millennium and now everything is at rest. That really doesn’t seem to be the experience of most people.
So it is better to just focus on each individual living in rest, which will in turn bring rest to the planet. If we live in freedom, then the planet will become free (and not just the planet, but the whole of creation). So it’s about us as sons living in rest; being rather than doing. That will dial everything down so that all (all people, all beings, all things throughout creation) can begin to discover God’s original intention and purpose for them, which is what will be restored in the restoration of all things.

When we first began looking at the different redemptive gifts that Paul lists in Romans 12:6-8, we saw that each had a colour associated with it. The colours have frequency and vibration that we resonate with in the spiritual realm. And we recognise that when the different coloured flags and banners are waving in our meetings, they open up particular spiritual connections.
But also associated with each gift are different primary areas of the soul:
Prophet – Red – Mind
Servant – Orange – Will
Teacher – Yellow – Mind
Exhorter – Green – Emotions
Giver – Blue – Mind
Ruler – Indigo – Will
Mercy – Violet – Emotions
The spirit/soul wheel
In this diagram the colours represent the gifts and are linked to the soul areas associated with them.
If we are looking to overcome the stronghold areas in our gift, we can use the complementary areas of the soul to do that. These are the areas next to our own gift, both clockwise and counter-clockwise on the wheel. So, for example, red is the prophet gift which operates primarily in the mind. To overcome the weaknesses in the prophet gift you need the servant gift’s soul area, the will, and the mercy gift’s soul area, the emotions.
The most effective way of achieving this in community is to get alongside people with complementary gifting/soul areas, because you will be able to provide a perspective that each of them needs as well as drawing on them yourself. You may even find yourselves naturally drawn together in relationship because you instinctively know that you need one another’s support and help. This is why it is so important for us to overcome any mutual suspicion or distrust of our differences and to honour God’s gifts in one another.
Follow the wheel around and you will see that each gifts needs the strengths of two other gifts.
How does this work? There are connections between the human spirit and the human soul. Each portion of the human spirit is connected to a portion of the human soul. So we need our spirit to engage with our soul to enable it to be led and directed into the things that God wants. A culture of honour and a dependence on each other (in a right sense) will enable each of us to be a fully functioning individual – and together to become a fully functioning body.
Calling forth
God wants to call forth our spirit, and to call forth those gifts in us, so that we will be able to function in the things He has called us to. Just as the Father spoke over Jesus He wants to speak over us as His children today. He wants to speak truth, to call forth His desires for us.
Let’s take a few moments to sense His presence: Father, Son and Holy Spirit speaking to our hearts, speaking to our spirits, calling forth those redemptive gifts of sonship which He has placed within us. Hear what God is speaking over us:
I call forth your identity as My child. I call forth your redemptive gifts. I call forth your identity as an overcomer and a conqueror. I call forth your ability to subdue and to rule your soul. I call you to be transformed by the renewing of your mind. I release the gathering angels to expose and remove stumbling blocks and lawlessness from your life, to expose and remove demonic strongholds, to expose and remove iniquitous roots, to expose and remove birthright curses. I call you to surrender and trust Me. I call you to know your true identity, gift and destiny as My child.
God intends us to be part of bringing all creation back into His original intention and purpose, that of redeeming not only this planet but the whole cosmos. True, we are imperfect people, but if we are willing to surrender to Him then He can do that through us.
He is looking for the response of our hearts: for us to say ‘yes’, to draw closer to Him, to allow Him deeper into our hearts, to let the barriers down so that He can bring healing to some of those deep areas of hurt and pain which we have been carefully protecting. Let’s allow our spirits to worship Him in freedom, and to open up our hearts and allow the Holy Spirit, the angels and the presence of God to bring healing, wholeness and restoration.
Let’s come into agreement with Him, let’s realign ourselves back into who we really are, so that we can come into wholeness, into peace, into that place of rest. Not striving or struggling but enjoying the relationship with God that He designed us to have, walking with Him in the cool of the day in the garden of our hearts and in the garden of heaven, we can bring heaven to earth and see His kingdom come, manifested here on earth as it is in heaven.
